A warm, golden meat pie made with ground beef and a flaky puff pastry crust, perfect for busy weeknight dinners.

Ingredients
  

For the filling
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb Use all lamb for a richer flavor.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced Peas or corn can be added for sweetness.
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste salt and pepper
For the crust
  • 1 package puff pastry or pie crust Use a shallow pie dish for even baking.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
  3. Add the ground meat and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the carrots, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Roll out the pastry and line a pie dish with it.
  2. Add the meat filling.
  3. Cover with another layer of pastry and seal the edges.
  4. Brush the top with beaten egg.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For kids, serve smaller slices with a side of ketchup or mild gravy. Consider serving with mashed potatoes or a salad for a balanced meal. Individual hand pies can be made for lunches.
